Mozzy is Leicester's premium student hang-out, opening so many different days
you get a different taste every night, ranging from standard Indie, to Brit.
pop, to funk, to main stream dance. Pick a night suited to you! Being a major
Indie club I don't love it greatly, as the music never gets that hard core, Old
School is a little thin on the ground. But it will never disappoint and a great
night will be had. If students piss you off this may not be your place unless
you are out on the weekend then more townies pile in, but if you can stand the
student smell and attitude then go along for all the promotions they put on for
those starving students. One of Mozzy's luckiest streaks was that it was placed
next to Bar Gaudi, one of the greatest cocktail bars in existence. Get loaded
beforehand on cheap yummy cocktails then wander two doors down into Mozzy and
top up that alcohol level with £1 bottles of Carlsberg (I thought it was
Carling - DJ Ess). The downstairs dance floor is always very lively as the
DJ whatever he is (Whoever he is, surely - DJ Ess) playing will always
keep the crowd going. Lights are a bit thin on the ground but they do have one
crazy green laser light which is generally showing a heart monitor in time to
the beat (That'll be a graphic oscillator, then - DJ Ess). Being able to
blast these images all over the club can make you think they have a thousand
lights. Upstairs you must lounge on a sofa (if you can get one) and watch a
classic film. The last three times I was there they played Predator, The
Italian Job, and 3 back to back episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard (Can
it get much better?). During the closing shots of the ItalianJob the music
upstairs was drowned out by 400 people singing the Self-Preservation Society.
That by any means does not imply the music is quiet but 400 students make a hell
of a noise, and if you have you ever met a student you'll know what I mean! The
upstairs area is also available for private hire if you can get together 150
people, we did it once for a Uni. ball and they set up a really good evening.
Bar Staff are friendly and the female ones are attractive, coming to woman
people always say you get the same old woman going every week, well just think
how may new freshers there are every year, always good to break in!
